NEWS & TIPS: Loss of Part-Time Job Ops; Weathering Financial Storm

  • If you have gift cards, hurry up and use them because many of your favorite stores will no longer be open in your favorite shopping areas. However, you can also check to see if the cards can be still be used in the online stores, as well. Many of these stores have already closed over the last year or so, as well.
  • Also, be sure to start cutting up all credit cards, saving cash, and ensuring that your outgo is a lot less than your income. We are going to be in for a bit more of a rough ride through the rest of this economic storm.
  • Part-time jobs are going to be in high demand from now on, so cut your spending, instead of relying on an extra job to pay for extras.
  • Learn to make do with what you have. Learn how to recycle items in your household that can be reused to also help save money.
  • Learn how to make clothing and other items instead of purchasing them.
  • Buy whole foods in bulk and keep them in airtight plastic/glass/metal containers to keep insects out of your pantry during long-term storage. Cardboard harbors insects and their eggs, so get rid of all paper containers for long term storage.
  • Make more foods, like bread, from scratch. Eat more fresh unprocessed foods, as they are much less expensive. However, remember that you would need to shop every 3 days or so to get fresh produce, as those don't store well when bought in bulk.
  • Use this as a great opportunity to lose weight. Eat more at home. Take a sack lunch and snacks with you when you leave home. You should see a big difference in your bottom line and waste line in no time.
  • Learn to shop for the best bargains and add coupons to those purchases to save even more OR shop at deeper discount stores such as Aldi's which don't generally offer coupons, but give you the savings upfront. Remember to take some boxes and or bags with you to stores like that.
  • Look over the list of store closings provided below. Remember to find out about those gift cards and use them now if you can't use them online.
  • Check this blog for more tips on how to weather this storm in the near future.
