Clayton families and businesses have been living through this whole mess for the past year now. Even though many schools are very good with great accomplishments, like Jonesboro Highschool's mock trial team national champs, the actions of some very selfish and irresponsible pseudo-leaders have cost the whole of Clayton County dearly. This mess stretches far and wide, in terms of its effect on the county, from housing to jobs to businesses/stores, and more.
One big issue coming forth is that many Clayton families now may no longer have access to the free Georgia Pre-K program which they need so they can go back to work. Lower wages, job/salary cutbacks, and part-time hours make private childcare unaffordable for many of the lower and middle income families here.
Another big problem is that voter turn out was still horrible this past summer, and the same type of people may again be leaking back into various top positions within the county. "When/How will things ever get any better?", is what many Clayton County families and business owners here are thinking.
Some families have tried to be proactive with finding solutions for their own families by choosing private and charter schools, if they could afford it. Other families, many who can't afford private school, have opted to homeschool their children.
For those who may want to homeschool, but don't know where to start, the following groups offer moms support with the chance to network online and in real time. They also provide information (by way of links to and names of where to go for the required information) regarding starting and running a legally-recognized homeschool in Georgia and Clayton County:

These groups, and other similar groups, are an awesome resource because they are usually free or fairly inexpensive and provide a wealth of information on many topics that can help families to save money, prepare healthier meals, recycle, and more.
